"According to Shiawassee County Health and Wellness, 5% of 7th graders and 11% of the high schoolers in Shiawassee County reported taking a prescription drug not prescribed to them within the past month alone," organizers noted in a recent release.

The Shiawassee County FAN Chapter will be working with other organizations in the community to battle this epidemic. The Shiawassee County FAN Chapter will be working with individuals seeking help, who are not currently in the criminal justice system.

"We want to enact programs that can assist these individuals as well as their family members.  The Shiawassee County FAN Chapter will provide the community with support, education and the resources to help with this ever growing problem," the release also stated.

The group held its first community open forum recently.  Open forums will continue to be held for the community to participate and learn about how to stop this epidemic as well as provide a strong support network for individuals and their families. 

The group will meet every third Thursday of the month the Owosso High School Media Center at 7pm for anyone wishing to participate or those wishing to seek help.  All are encouraged to attend to learn more.
