The exact track of precipitation has been continously evolving this week, but meteorologists agree on one thing for certain: we're in for a big winter storm this weekend that could bring significant rain, snow and dangerous ice accumulations.

Michigan's northern lower peninsula should expect primarily snow. The greater concerns are for central and southern lower Michigan, where significant rain and ice accumulations are possible.

Flooding is a concern for southeast Michigan in particular, as the storm system moves in Friday night. As much as 3 inches of rainfall accumulation is predicted for some areas.

The area of greatest concern is the central lower peninsula, including Shiawassee County, where heavy rainfall beginning late Friday is expected to transition to sleet and freezing rain overnight into Saturday and continue throughout the day on Saturday.

As much as 1/3 inches of ice accumulation is predicted, prompting the call for residents to be aware and prepared for potential power outages that could last for an extended period.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch beginning at 4am on Saturday January 11th and continuing until 7am on Sunday January 12th for Shiawassee and Genesee counties. A Flood Watch has also been issued for Shiawassee and Genesee counties beginning at 12am on Saturday January 11th and continuing until 4am on Sunday January 12th.

Much of the lower peninsula has some type of weather watch or advisory in effect for the period beginning Friday evening and ending Sunday.
