The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) issued a Health Protection Order against Karl Manke, the Owosso barber who reopened his business last week despite the Governor's Executive Order requiring salons to stay closed until at least May 28th.

"The order requires Karl Manke’s Barbershop in Shiawassee County, which overtly defied Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s order, to immediately close to the public," a statement from MDHHS reads.

Manke opened back up on May 4th and says he's staying open until he's arrested "or until Jesus comes back," Manke's brother, Tom, who publishes Friends and Community Shiawassee News and Views, wrote on Friday.

State Attorney General Dana Nessel also released a statement, saying "Mr. Manke was given every opportunity to voluntarily comply with the Governor’s Executive Order and the order of the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services Director. As a result of his continued operation, today his business was deemed an imminent danger to the public health and ordered to be shut down by the DHHS Director. If he refuses, the Department of Attorney General will request an order from the Shiawassee County Circuit Court on Monday to close his business."

Karl Manke, 77, received two citations earlier in the week, requiring him to appear in court on June 6th.

Lines of patrons have filed out the front door of Manke's barber shop since he opened up and people have come from all over Michigan to show their support of his decision to reopen.  Manke previously said he had no choice after Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency denied his application twice.

Even on Saturday, six days after he first reopened, a group of supporters clad in military wear, carrying flags and signs, stood in front of the business and waved as vehicle after vehicle passed by and honked.

On Saturday, members of the Michigan Militia told Mid-Michigan Now that they would stand in the doorway to prevent the arrest of Manke.
