Cantu, a 2010 Corunna grad, was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2012. State Represenative Ben Frederick proposed a bill to honor Cantu with the creation of the PFC Shane Cantu Memorial Highway along the portion of M-71 between the city of Owosso and Corunna.
“Shane Cantu’s sacrifice has greatly impacted the communities of Owosso and Corunna,” Frederick said earlier this year. “This memorial connecting the two cities will honor his sacrifice and bravery.”
